Foreword

The children in the early days are now old. Looking back, they have also blown numerous "Hang-er winds". The winds are pure, and you can feel the culture of Hangzhou laodi. For example, the male children in Hangzhou will play the pinball, flush the western pian, roll the copper, roll the iron band, and spin the Radha. I do not know when the epidemic began to collect the cigarette casing, the penknife split the sugarcane... For instance, the women in Hangzhou will take rubber bands, skipping rope, shuttlecock kicking, hook foot jumping, and do not know when the prevalence of throwing sandbags and catching mahjong tiles... Even the boys and girls that have mingled: hide and seek, touch, seize, catch, fish, eagle, chicken, handkerchief, rope...

In the middle of the last century, cameras were rare and expensive, and families would not take pictures unless they were well groomed. So the games, merriment, and even the daily life of the children hardly have any decent image retained. And my vivid memory and painting skills are able to retain something, which is also a very suitable thing.

When I finished writing and painting, I found that we were moving away from a life. This kind of life should be described as "poor", but the spiritual abundance is now incomparable. At that time, there were the concept of honor and disgrace combined with the traditional culture and the red culture, the friendship without utility in group life, the integrity of being true to one's word, the closeness to nature, the ever-changing collective games, and many other things that could not be explained clearly, which made people be kind, upward, calm and thoughtful.

——Chi Shahong
